Thomas Rauch, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the Die Neue Freiheit von Bremen under the command of Skipper Steingrawer.

The settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 15 July 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 129.

The 1767 census records that they came from the German village of Greuth near Bamberg.
