Nikolaus Reich served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.  He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Louis.

Nikolaus Reich from Germany married in Louis on 18 January 1815 to Katharina Peter, widow of Johannes Peter.

Nikolaus Reich and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Louis in Household No. 12.
