Reis (Hildmann)
There are two Reis families that settled in the Volga German colony of Hildmann on 14 May 1767. They had arrived together from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 31 May 1766 aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.
(1) Hans [Adam] Reiss, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and daughter Justina (age 1½) arrived in Oranienbaum. They are recorded on the 1767 census of Hildmann in Household No. 1 along with a note that Adam Reis was surving as the colony's mayor (Vorsteher). The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Hans Reis came from the Netherlands.
(2) Wilhelm Reis, a farmer, and his wife Katharina arrived in Oranienbam. They are recorded on the 1767 census of Hildmann in Household No. 4. The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Wilhelm Reis came from the German region of Mainz.
The 1767 census records that both of these Reis families came from the German village of Aschaffenburg.
