Michael Resch and his wife Susanna Barbara arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Johann Hermann Anderson.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 16 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 96.

The 1767 census records that Michael Resch came from the German village of Vinsberg near Würzburg.
