Ferdinand Richter, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 27 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 9 along with his stepdaughter Johanna Dietrich (age 4).

The 1767 census records that Ferdinand Richter came from the German region of Fulda.
