Valentin Rickel, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife Maria Kreinz settled in the Volga German colony of Herzog on 14 July 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 28.
The 1767 census records that Valentin Rickel came from the German village of Amberg in Bayern (Bavaria).
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
