Wenzel Riesch, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Karaman on 9 July 1766. Wenzel, his wife Eva, children from his first wife (Matthias, age 18; Johann Jakob, age 15; Anna Maria, age 14; Anna Barbara, age 13; Regina, age 9), and children from his second wife (Eva Katharina, age 5; Christoph, age 3) are recorded on the 1767 census of Stahl am Karaman in Household No. 2 along with his stepdaughter Elisabeth Maier (age 13).

The 1798 census of Enders records son Christoph Riesch from Stahl am Karaman in Household No. En33.

The 1767 census records that Wenzel Riesch came from the German town of Karlsruhe in the Baden-Durlach region and that his wife, Eva, came from the German city of Stuttgart in the Württemberg region.
