Johannes Romeis, servant in the castle in Gersfeld, son of Georg Romeis of Kippelbach, was born 30 March 1715 in Kippelbach. He married 28 June 1748 in Gersfeld to Anna Heun, daughter of Peter Heun. She had been born 29 November 1717 in Kippelbach.
Hans Romeis, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Peter, age 19; Anna, age 11) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 20 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Catharina Eleonora under the command of Skipper Peter Rehder.
Hanss Romeyss [sic], his wife Anna, and children (Peter, age 18; Anna, age 11) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that both parents died en route.
Orphan Anna Romeis (age 10), daughter of the deceased Johannes Romeis, is recorded on the 1767 census of Frank in Household No. 110. She had arrived there on 1 September 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Hans Romeis came from the German village of Gersfeld. The 1767 census records that Anna Romeis came from the German village of Gersfeld in the Freie Adelprovinz der alten Ritter [Free Nobel Province of Ancient Knights].
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
