Discussion & Documentation:

Andreas Schäfer, son of Johannes Schäfer, and Anna Juliana Dietz, daughter of Conrad Dietz, were married in Queck on 18 November 1750.  The baptisms of three of their hildren are recorded in Queck: (1) Anna Catharina, baptized 28 August 1751; (2) Elisabeth, baptized 12 October 1753; and (3) Anna Elisabetha, born 22 December 1755, baptized 23 December 1755.

Andreas Schäfer, a farmer, his wife Anna Gertrude, and daughters (Anna Katharina, age 16; Elisabeth, age 13; Anna Elisabeth, age 11) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.

Andreas Schäfer, his wife Anna Gellia [sic], and children (Anna Catharina, age 17½; Elisabeth, age 13; Anna Elisabeth, age 11) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that wife Anna Gellia died en route.

Andreas Schäfer, a farmer, his [new] wife Elisabeth, and daughter Anna Katharina (age 18) are recorded on the 1767 census of Frank in Household no. 57.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Andreas Schäfer came from the German region of Schlitz. The 1767 census records that he came from the village of Queck near Schlitz.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schäfer family among the Volga German colonies.
