Lorenz Schäfer, his wife Anna Katharina, and children (Johannes & Mathias) settled in the Volga German colony of Kamenka on 6 July 1765. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 42 along with newborn daughter Anna Maria (age ½-year).
In 1794, Johannes Schäfer and his family moved from Kamenka to Husaren.
The 1767 census records that Lorenz Schäfer came from the German region of Westfalen.
