Discussion & Documentation:

Johann[es] Schäfer, a farmer, his wife Dorothea, and children (Johann, age 19; Adam, age 16; Johann, age 11; Johann Georg, age 8) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard the hooker Die Jungfer Dietrika under the command of Skipper Christian Korsholm.

Johannes Schäffer, his wife Dorothea, and children (Johannes, age 19; Joh. Adam, age 16; Johannes [again], age 11; Johann Georg, age 8) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Pfeifer on 22 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 85 along with a note that that oldest son Johannes relocated to the Volga German colony of Kamenka in 1768.

The 1798 census of Pfeifer records in Household No. Pf89 that Georg Schäfer is living in Norka.

Georg Schäfer from Pfeifer is recorded on the 1811 census of Norka in Household No. 38 along with a note that he had arrived in Norka from Pfeifer in 1802. He was accompanied by his two illegitimate sons (Friedrich, age 21; Christian, age 19) who were from Beideck.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Johannes Schäfer came from the German region of Würzburg.
