Johannes Schäfer, a farmer, his wife Barbara, and sons (Andreas, age 22; Michael, age 8) are recorded on the 1767 census of Pfeifer in Household No. 34. They had settled there on 15 June 1767.
The 1767 census records that Johannes Schäfer came from the German region of Würzburg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schäfer family among the Volga German colonies.
