Discussion & Documentation

Johannes Schæffer from Freÿensehen [Freienseen] in the jurisdiction of Solms-Laubach & Anna Margaretha Hesler from Ilsdorff in the jurisdiction of Solms-Laubach were married on 17 April 1766 in the Lutheran Church of Büdingen.

Johann[es] Schäfer and his wife Anna Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the pink Cargo under the command of Lieutenant Moses Davydov.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Krasnoyar on 20 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 66.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Schäfer was a weaver while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Johannes Schäfer came from the German region of Laubach.
