Johann Schäfer, a tailor (Schneider), his wife Elisabeth, and daughter Susanna (age 19) arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov.
Johannes Schäfer (age 60), a farmer, and his wife Elisabeth (age 56) arrived in Warenburg on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 132.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Schäfer came from the German region of Braunfels. The 1767 census records that Johannes Schäfer came from the German village of Steinbach in the Hessen-Kassel district.
There do not appear to be any surviving male descendants of this Schäfer family that continue among the Volga German colonies.
