Andreas Schäfer (age 47) is recorded on the 1798 census of Warenburg in Household No. Wr020. He does not appear to fit into any of the other Schäfer families of Warenburg.
He is believed to be the stepson of Mattias Rothenberger as follows:
Mattias Rathenburger [sic], a farmer, his wife Barbara, and children (Katharina, age 25; Andreas, age 16) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna (The New Fortune) under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber.
Mattias Rothenberger (age 51), a saltpeter producer (Salpeterseider), his wife Karolina (age 35), and stepson Andreas [Schäfer] (age 17) are recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 60. They had arrived in Warenburg on 12 May 1767. [See Rothenberger Family.]
