Discussion & Documentation:

Gottlieb Schatz, a nail smith (Nagelschmied), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Rosenheim on 15 March 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 7 along with his stepsons: Johann Adam Jäckel (age 4) and Philipp Jäckel (age 3).

The 1767 census records that Gottlieb Schatz came from the German village of Breslau in Schlesien (Silesia) and that his wife, Anna Maria, came from the German village of Zwingenberg in the Darmstadt region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schatz family among the Volga German colonies.
