Schetzel (Pfeifer)*

Johann Schetzel, his wife Maria, and daughter Margaretha (age 11) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard the pink Lev under the command of Lieutenant Fyodor Fyodorov.

Johann Schetzel, his [new] wife Katharina, and children (Margaretha, age 12; Johannes, age 1) are recorded on the 1767 census of Pfeifer in Household No. 10. They had settled there on 15 June 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Schetzel was a carpenter from the German region of Mainz while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer from the German region of Orb.

It is believed that Johann had remarried by the time of the 1767 census and that some of the children recorded may not be his.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schetzel family among the Volga German colonies.
