Discussion & Documentation

Peter Schlider, a widowed farmer, and his children (Friedricka, age 21; Victoria, age 20; Hieronymos, age 16) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a ship named Die Zwei Gebrüder (The Two Brothers) under the command of Skipper Nicolaus Peter Pinck.

Widower Peter Schlider and his son Hyeronimus [sic] (age 16) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that father Peter died en route. Also listed with them is Victoria Tilo identified as a possible step-daughter of Peter Schlider.

Heronimus Schmitter, a single farmer, is recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 127 along with a note that he settled in the Volga German colony of Schaffhausen in 1768.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Peter Schlider came from the German region of Hamburg. The 1767 census records that Heronimus Schmitter came from the German region of Hamburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schlider family among the Volga German colonies.
