Christian Schmidt (age 17) is recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 64 along with his stepfather Johann Katzenbach.
A note accompanying the census records that the Katzenbach family settled in the colony of Basel in 1768. It is presumed that Christian Schmidt also settled in Basel.
The 1767 census does not record from where Christian Schmidt came.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
