Johann Georg Schmidt, the stepson of Johann Georg Büttner, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a ship named Die Zwei Gebrüder (The Two Brothers) under the command of Skipper Nicolaus Peter Pinck. [See Büttner Family.]
Georg Schmidt (and the Büttner family) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Boisroux on 3 August 1767 along with his mother and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 58 along with his mother and stepfather, Johann Georg Bütner.
In 1774, Johann Georg Schmidt and his wife moved from Boisroux to Katharinenstadt.
Georg Schmidt (age 26), his wife Anna Maria (age 22), and children (Rosina, age 2; Johann Heinrich, born 1779) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 215.
