Simon Schmidt, a joiner (Tischler), and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Heidemann.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Brabander on 19 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 36.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Simon Schmidt came from the German region of Trier. The 1767 census records that he came from the village of Posen in Poland.
