Martin Schmidt was born in approximately 1789 in Felsike [?].
He served as a soldier in the 57th Infantry Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against and was captured by the Russians.
In 1814, was settled in the Volga German colony of Dehler.
Milovidov records that as of 1814 Martin Schmidt's mother and two sisters were still living in Felsike [?].
He is recorded on the 1834 Dehler Census in Household No. 103 along with a note that he had relocated to the colony of Schönchen, however, Martin Schmidt from Dehler and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Hildmann along with a note that he had arrived there from Dehler in 1818.
Milovidov records that Martin Schmidt came from the village of Felsike [?] in The Netherlands where he had been a farmer.
