Schmidt (Hölzel)
There are two Schmidt families who are presumed to be related because they traveled together and settled in the same colony. Their relationship, if any, needs further research.
(1) Theodor Schmidt, a farmer, his wife Maria, and daughter Barbara (age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Gabriel Wild.
Theodosios Schmidt, his wife Maria, and daughter Barbara (age 1) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Hölzel on 11 September 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 27.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Theodor Schmidt came from the German region of Solms. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Buchhorn [Wochern] in the Lothringen region.
(2) Nikolaus Schmid [sic] & Anna Margarethe Hirsch were married on 1 June 1766 in Roßlau.
