Ludwig Theodor Schmidt was born about 1792 in Homberg.
He was a farmer before serving as a non-commissioned officer in the Dragoon Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against and was captured by the Russians.
Milovidov records that as of 1814 his father, mother, brother, and sister were still living in Homberg.
He was settled in the Volga German colony of Rosenheim and assigned to the household of Pastor Jäger of the Rosenheim Parish.
He is recorded on the 1834 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 349 along with a note that he had been removed from the list of colonists in 1824.
Milovidov records that Ludwig Theodor Schmidt came from the German town of Homberg in the region of Württemberg. [There are several villages named Homberg in Baden-Württemberg. Further research is needed to determine which one is the home of this Schmidt family.]
