Discussion & Documentation

Jakob Schmidt, a single craftsman (Handwerker), settled in the Volga German colony of Walter on 25 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 60 along with a note that he relocated to the Volga German colony of Messer in 1768.

The 1767 census records that Jakob Schmidt came from the German village of [Groß] Schoritz in Prussian Pomerania.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
