Schmidt (Messer-4)
Johann Georg Schmidt, son of Melchior Schmidt, a blacksmith (Schmied) and soldier (Soldat), his unnamed wife, and unnamed child immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) arriving in the city of Schleswig on 15 October 1762.
They were dismissed from the Danish colonies in June 1763 and joined the migration to Russia.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Messer on 7 July 1766. Georg Schmidt, his wife Anna Barbara, and Georg Jakob (age 1½) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 6.
The Eichhorns record that Johann Georg Schmidt came from the German village of Klein Gertach in the area of Brackenheim in the region of Württemberg. The 1767 census records that Georg Schmidt came from the German region of Württemberg.
