Discussion & Documentation

Joseph Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife Anna Elisabeth are recorded on the 1767 census of Ober-Monjou in Household No. 56 along with orphan Johannes Stuppert (age 13). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Schmidt and Stuppert families. They had settled in Ober-Monjou on 23 July 1767.

The 1767 census records that Joseph Schmidt came from the German village of Aremind [?].

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
