Johannes Schmidt, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Anna Elisabeth, and son Johann Gottlieb (age 1) are recorded on the 1767 census of Schäfer in Household No. 23. They had settled there on 6 August 1766.
Johannes Schmidt is recorded on the 1798 census of Schäfer in Household No. Sf06 along with a new wife Johanna Magdalena, believed to be the daughter of Konrad Krämer. The Johann Schmidt recorded on the 1798 census of Schäfer in Household No. Sf35 is presumed to be part of this same Schmidt family.
The 1767 census records that Johannes Schmidt came from the German village of Grünberg.
