Lorenz Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife Regina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna (The New Fortune) under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber.
Lorentz Schmidt is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Lorenz Schmidt (age 52), a soldier (Soldat), and his wife Anna Regina (age 36) are recorded on the 1767 census of Seelmann in Household No. 59. They had arrived in Seelmann on 15 July 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Lorenz Schmidt was a farmer while the 1767 census records that he was a soldier (Soldat).
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Lorenz Schmidt came form the German region of Bamberg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
