Schmidt (Zürich-1)*

Anna Schmidt, a widow, and her children (Philipp, age 32; Anna, age 22; Nikolaus, age 20) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Nikolaus is recorded on an appendix of Beauregard recruits to the 1767 census in Household #146 along with a note that he settled in the Volga German colony of Zürich in 1768.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Anna Schmidt came from the German region of Hessen. The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Schmidt came from the German village of Fonnershain in the Hessen region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
