Discussion & Documentation

Johann Caspar Schnegelberger, son of Hans Nicolaus Schnegelberger (born 1693) & Anna Christina Wahl, was born in Angersbach 4 September 1714. His grandfather was Eccard Schnegelberger who had been born in Rixfeld in 1655.

Johann Caspar married in 1754 to Anna Maria Becker who had been born 22 January 1729 in Angersbach. That same year, son Johann[es] was born followed by Johann Conrad in 1757 and daughter Anna Catharina in 1763.

Kaspar Schnegelberger, a wheelwright, his wife Anna Maria, and children (Johann[es], age 12; Johann Konrad, age 8; Anna Katharina, age 3½) arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the Swjatoy Pawel under the command of midshipman Fyodor Sornev.

The parents of this family died on the trip between Oranienbaum and the Volga colonies.

The surviving children settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Karaman on 10 June 1767. Son Johannes Schnegelberger is recorded there in Household No. 25 along with the Elias Rübsam family. Son Konrad Schnegelberger is also recorded there in Household No. 25 along with a note that he is living in Household No. 26 with the Konrad Sassmannhausen. The 1767 census does not record a relationship among the Schnegelberger, Rübsam, and Sassmannhausen.

Konrad Schnegelberger and his family are recorded in Beideck on the 1798 Census in Household No. Bd87.

Johannes Schnegelberger from Beideck is recorded on the 1834 census of Boisroux in Household No. 35 along with a note that he had arrived in Boisroux from Beideck in 1822.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Kaspar Schnegelberger came from the German village of Angersbach.
