Peter Staub, a craftsman (Handwerker), settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 14 June 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 63 along wth his new wife Margaretha (from the district of Zweibrücken) and their newborn daughter.

The 1767 census records that Peter Staub came from the German village of Saargemünd in the Lothringen district.
