Discussion & Documentation:

Johann Adam Sturm, son of Johannes & Anna Dorothea Sturm, married on 8 May 1753 in Oberreifenberg to Susanna Verrhoff, daughter of Conrad & Anna Catharina Verrhoff.

The baptisms of the following children born to Johann Adam Sturm & Susanna Verrhoff are recorded in the parish register of Oberreifenberg: (1) Maria Eva, baptized 19 March 1754; (2) Johann Jacob, baptized 27 August 1756; (3) Anna Margaretha, baptized 20 February 1759; (4) Johannes, born 4 June 1762, baptized 5 June 1762; and (5) Catharina, born & baptized 6 August 1765.

Johann Sturmann [sic], a stonemason, his wife Susanna, and children (Maria, age 16; Johann, age 4; Katharina, age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of skipper Johann Gottfried Seelender.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dehler on 1 July 1767.  Johann died 30 September 1767.  His widow, Susanna, and their surviving daughter, Maria Eva, are recorded on the 1767 census of Dehler in Household No. 45 along with a note that indicates that they relocated to the colony of Preuss in 1768.

The 1767 census records that Susanna Sturmann [sic] came from the German village of Reifenberg in the region of Bassenheim.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Sturm family among the Volga German colonies.
