Thiel (Frank)
There are two Thiels who were married in the Lutheran Church of Büdingen in February 1766. Both came from the German village of Höchst im Odenwald. They are presumed to be siblings.
(1) Anna Margretha Thiel married Martin Schæffer from Köstrich in the Darmstadt area on 24 February 1766.
Martin Schäfer, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 30 May 1766 aboard the pink Novaya Dvinka under the command of Lieutenant Ivan Perepechin.
Martin Schäfer, his wife Anna Margaretha, and daughter Elisabeth (age 1-week) are recorded on the on the 1767 census of Frank in Household No. 9.
(2) Joh. Peter Thiel married Anna Margretha Joeckel, daughter of the late Jost Joeckel from Laubach, on 28 February 1766.
Johann Peter and his wife have not been located on the Oranienbaum passenger list or among those settling in the Volga German colonies.
Valentin Thiel from Frank is recorded on the 1798 census of Kamenka in Household No. Km009. He is assumed to be connected to these families in some way.
