Discussion & Documentation

Johann Thüringer, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Maria arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Frau Catharina under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Jenßen.

Joh. Thüringer and his wife Catharina are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Johannes Tersich [sic], a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Maria are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 98 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Susannental in 1768.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Thüringer came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Johannes Tersich came from the German village of Elz.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Thüringer family among the Volga German colonies.
