Friedrich Träger, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Karaman on 9 July 1766. Friedrich, his wife Maria Katharina, and children (Johann Friedrich, age 13; Eva Katharina, age 7; Eva Maria, age 4; Johann Michael, age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Stahl am Karaman in Household No. 1 along with a note that Friedrich was serving as the colony's mayor (Vorsteher).
The 1767 census records that Friedrich Träger came from the German city of Stuttgart in the Wüttemberg region.
