Klaus Uschtak, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Schäfer on 25 May 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 48.
The 1767 census records that Klaus Uschtak came from the German town of Kiel in the Holstein region.
