Discussion & Documentation:

Stephen von Arkel was born in approximately 1786, probably in France.  He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.  He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, is believed to have settled in the Volga German colony of Anton.  However, he is recorded on the 1834 Census of Straub in Household No. 87.  The 1834 Census also records that he died in 1816, apparently without heirs.
