Discussion & Documentation:

Heinrich von der Au, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Johann, age 18; Maria, age 16; Konrad, age 13; Heinrich, age 11) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Joh.Heinrich von Derau [sic], his wife AnnaElisabetha, and sons (Johannes Conrad, age 13; Johann Heinrich, age 11) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that both parents and son Johann Heinrich died en route.

It is not know exactly where this family first settled among the Volga German colonies.  Son Konrad von der Au next appears on the 1798 census in the colony of Paulskaya (Pl13).

The death of Konrad von der Au in 1826 is recorded on the 1834 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 60.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich von der Au came from the German region of Darmstadt.

The ARCINsys database records that this family came from the German village of Vadenrod:

“Au, Johann Heinrich von der, Herkunft: Vadenrod. - Auswanderungsdatum: 1766 / Ziel: Rußland. Anzahl Kinder: 4. Bemerkungen: mit Ehefrau u. 4 Kindern. - Quelle: Kirchenbuch Hopfgarten”

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
