Franz Waas, a stocking maker, his wife Anna, and children (Alexander [Castelli], age 19; Christoph [Castelli], age 16; Carolius, age 11; Henricus, age 9; Eva, age 6½; Anna, age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.
Johann Franz Wase, his wife Anna Catharina, and children (Alexander [Castelli], age 19; Christoph [Castelli], age 16; Heinrich, age 11; Carolus, age 9; Eva, age 6) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Franz Wens [sic], a stocking maker (Strumpfwirker), his wife Katharina, children (Heinrich, age 11; Karl, age 7; Eva, age 5), stepsons [surname Castelli] (Alexander, age 22; Christoph, age 17), and orphans Susanna Christina (age 11) & Elisabeth (age 5) Bruschner are recorded on the list of Beauregard recruits (Household No. 109) that is attached to the 1767 census of the Volga German colonies.
In 1780, Karl Waas moved from Ober-Monjou to Katharinenstadt. Karl Waas from Ober-Monjou and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. Ka075.
The death of Karl Waas in 1833 is recorded on the 1834 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 224.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Franz Waas came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Franz Wens [sic] came from the German village of Oberelbert in the Darmstadt region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
