Jacques Waleton was born in approximately 1790, probably in France.  He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.  He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Seelmann, where he is recorded with the German name of Johannes.

He is recorded on the 1834 Census of Seelmann in Household No. 1.  His death in 1848 is recorded on the 1850 Census of Seelmann in Household No. 1.
