Christoph Walter, a farmer, his wife Maria, and children (Anna, age 12; Helena, age 10; Johann, age 8; Heinrich, age 5) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the barque named Fortitudo under the command of Skipper John Scott.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Krasnoyar on 20 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1. A note on the 1767 census records that Christoph Walter was serving as the mayor (Vorsteher) of the colony at the time.
The 1767 census records that Christoph Walter came from the German village of Riedesel in the Darmstadt region.
