Discussion & Documentation

Johannes Walter, a craftsman (Handwerker), settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Karaman on 9 July 1766 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 7. A note on the 1767 census indicates that he left his wife in Germany.

The 1767 census records that Johannes Walter came from the German region of Neuberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Walter family among the Volga German colonies.
