Johann Wandermuth, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 14 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 31.

The 1798 census of Mariental (Household No. Mt21) records that he had been living in Herzog.

The 1767 census records that Johann Wandermuth came from the German region of Runzen.
