Christian [Friedrich] Wasmuth, a butcher (Fleischer), his wife Sophia, and children (Sophia, age 5½; Johann, age ½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.
Friederich Wassmus [sic], his wife Soph. Elisab., and children (Christina, age 5½; Joh. Andreas, age ½) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 7 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 14.
Christian Friedrich Wasmuth, his wife Judith née Kellner (widow Kohl), children Sophia Christina, age 15; Johann Andreas, age 10), and stepdaughter Katharina Elisabeth [Kohl] (age 10) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 16 along with a note that Christian Friedrich Wasmuth died in 1777. The birth of a son Georg Philipp (born 11 May 1776) is also recorded on the Land Register.
In 1798, Georg Philipp Wasmuth left Katharinenstadt.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Christian Wasmuth came from the German region of Sachsen (Saxony). The 1767 census records that Christian Friedrich Wasmuth came from the German village of Petersfeld in Sachsen (Saxony). The 1776 Land Register records that Christian Friedrich Wasmuth came from the German region of Schierren [Scheeren] in Sachsen (Saxony) and his wife Judith née Kellner came from the German village of Basel in Switzerland.
