Discussion & Documentation

Peter Weil, a farmer, his wife Maria Elisabeth, son Nikolaus (age 1½), and [nephew] Johann Heinrich [Schütz] (age 14) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna (The New Fortune) under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber.

Peter Weil is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Peter Weil (age 28), a farmer, and his wife Maria Elisabeth (age 28) are recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 43 along with his nephew, the orphan Heinrich Schütz (age 15). They had arrived in Warenburg on 12 May 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Peter Weil came from the German region of Nassau. The 1767 census records that Peter Weil came from the German village of Weilmünster in the Nassau-Weilburg region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Weil family among the Volga German colonies.
