Discussion & Documentation

Kaspar Weiss, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Katharina, age 13; Andreas, age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pink.

Caspar Weiss, his wife Anna Elisabeth, and children (Catharina, age 13½; August, born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that newborn August died en route.

They are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 99 along with a note that they relocated to the Volga German colony of Bettinger in 1768.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Kaspar Weiss came from the German region of Darmstadt.
