Kaspar Wenzel, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the 2-masted merchant ship named Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Adolph Scharpenberg.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Keller on 12 May 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 74 with a note that he's "not present, but in the service of Father Melchior [Trenker] on the Karaman." This is believed to be the same person who is recorded as Kaspar Wenzele [sic] on the 1767 census of Mariental in Household No. 91.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Kaspar Wenzel came from the Mainz region. The 1767 census of Mariental records that Kaspar Wenzele [sic] came from the German village of Poduch in the Kurmainz region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Wenzel family among the Volga German colonies.
