Discussion & Documentation

Georg Wenzel arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Georg Wentzell [sic] is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

He is recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Nieder-Monjou (No. 46) along with a note that he relocated to the Volga German colony of Näb in 1768.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Wenzel is a single farmer from the German region of Saxony.

The 1767 census records that Georg Wenzel was a widowed miller (Müller) from the German village of Coburg [?] in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).

There are no known surviving male lines of this Wenzel family among the Volga German colonies.
