Discussion & Documentation

Nikolaus Werner, a tanner, his wife Anna, and children (Anna, age 20; Katharina, age 15; Elisabeth, age 12; Christoph, age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 7 May 1766 aboard the galliot named Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Daniel Heyer.

At some point after their arrival in Oranienbaum, Nikolaus died. His widow remarried to Johann Pracht who also arrived on the Anna Katharina.  They settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 5 March 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 76.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that this family came from the German village of Grünberg.
